Gas production from Azerbaijan’s Umid-2 postponed to 2022

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.4

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Taking into account the current status of Umid-2 project (platform of Umid gas field) in Azerbaijan, the start of gas production has been postponed from the third quarter of 2021 to the third quarter of 2022, Trend reports citing Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.

In order to prevent delays in overall production from the field, it is planned to accelerate the production from Umid-1 platform by constructing a main gas line from Umid-1 platform directly to Dashgil terminal in the first quarter of 2021.

After starting the output from Umid-2 platform, it will be connected to the main gas line across the bottom of the sea.

As a result of these measures, the total production from the northern part of Umid field is expected to be 51 billion cubic meters of gas and 5.3 million tons or 41 million barrels of condensate.

Umid is the first field discovered in 2010 through the internal resources during the period of Azerbaijan’s independence.

It is located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, 40 kilometers south of Baku. A total of 3.4 billion cubic meters of gas and 540,000 tons of condensate have been extracted from the gas condensate field from 2012 to May 2020.
