BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 15. Within the framework of the project “Acceleration of production from Umid-1 platform”, the limitations in the transport infrastructure were removed and the production capacity of the Umid1 platform was increased to 8.1 million cubic meters, Trend reports with reference to Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.

In this project, construction of the Umid1 platform, construction of 20” transport pipeline offshore, construction of bypass part of Dashgil-2 Terminal, construction of 40” gas transport pipeline onshore, construction of gas intake infrastructure in the area belonged to UBOC at Sangachal Main Units were carried out.

In the following years, the platform will be brought to full capacity with the commissioning of wells No. U1-20 and U1-22.

Design works for the construction of the Umid-2 platform were continued for the purpose of attracting residual resources to the development of the northern wing of the Umid field and drilling exploratory/appraisal wells in the southern wing. In order to obtain the first production from the platform earlier, appropriate optimization works were carried out. Work on the project of new Dashgil Terminal was continued in order to implement the initial processing of the product to be output from the Umid field and from the Babek exploration target in the future.

Situated in the Caspian Sea, 75 kilometers south of Baku, the Umid field spans an area of 45 square kilometers, with the sea depth in the field's territory ranging from 40 to 60 meters.

Umid field was discovered on November 24, 2010. Notably, the potential of Umid as a promising structure had been identified in 1953 during exploration work conducted by Azerbaijani geologists.

In 2008, SOCAR and Nobel Oil Exploration & Production Ltd created SOCAR-Umid LLC, to carry out drilling on the prospective Umid structure in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. SOCAR owns an 80-percent share and the Nobel Oil company has 20-percent share in the joint venture.
