BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 8. The date of the 10th anniversary meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) Advisory Council in Baku has been set, a government source told Trend.
It has been tentatively agreed that the 10th meeting of the countries participating and interested in the functioning of the Southern Gas Corridor will be held on March 1.
All the previous meetings of the Advisory Council were held in February.
"Due to the presidential election in Azerbaijan scheduled for February, it was planned to hold the anniversary meeting on SGC on March 1. While the date has been agreed upon, it can be adjusted if necessary," the source said.
The source mentioned that during this meeting it is planned to sign several documents, both on the expansion of the SGC and the entry of new member states, as well as green energy projects.
"It is planned to hold a separate session on green energy projects and a number of essential agreements. It should be taken into account that Baku will host the 29th session of the UN Climate Summit (COP29) in November 2024, and documents will be signed this year on, in particular, hydrogen strategy and other green energy-related projects. Progress on the creation of new renewable energy sources (RES) will also be outlined," the source added.
Azerbaijan plans to increase the share of RES in the energy balance to 33 percent by 2028.
The Southern Gas Complex has been fully operational since December 2020 and supplies gas to Italy (over 9 billion cubic meters per year), Greece, and Bulgaria - 1 billion cubic meters per year each.
The EU countries received 11.4 billion cubic meters of gas for 15.6 billion euros in 2022.
The volume reached 11.8 billion cubic meters of gas in 2023.
Hungary and Romania also received gas from Azerbaijan in 2023, and in 2024 Serbia joined the list of the countries.
