BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28. The United Nations (UN) will continue working with civil society to support Azerbaijan in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva, Trend reports.
Speaking at the founding conference of the Global South Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Platform in Baku, on "Solidarity in Action: Strengthening Global South NGOs for a New and Fair World," Andreeva emphasized the importance of NGO alliances.
"Strengthening NGO alliances is not only about joint efforts but also about protecting the spaces that allow for cooperation and innovation for a sustainable and green future. As the UN in Azerbaijan, we look forward to continuing our work with civil society and all other stakeholders to support Azerbaijan in achieving its national development priorities and SDGs by 2030," she said.
Andreeva underscored that although certain nations, including Azerbaijan, have achieved notable advancements in sectors such as education and healthcare, the phenomenon of global inequality continues to be a pervasive challenge.
"Many countries are still facing serious challenges in achieving goals related to climate action, poverty reduction, and sustainable consumption. The imperative for expedited initiatives has reached an unprecedented level of criticality. Governments, civil society, and the private sector must collaborate to increase financing, strengthen policy implementation, and protect civil space to ensure meaningful progress," she concluded.
