BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 1. The first production well for deep gas at Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block in Azerbaijan can be drilled in the second half of 2024, Katerina Papalexandri, bp’s vice president gas and low carbon energy growth, Caspian gas growth, said, addressing the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council 10th Ministerial Meeting in Baku, Trend reports.
“Last year, we drilled an appraisal well on ACG to explore the deep gas reservoirs under the producing oil field. The data we have obtained from the well looks promising. This gives us confidence to plan for the drilling of the first production well in the second half of the year. We are going to drill it from the West Chirag platform,” she said.
Papalexandri noted that if successful, bp will be able to achieve first ACG deep gas early next year.
In January 2023, bp initiated the drilling of an appraisal well as part of the Deep Gas project at ACG, completing the drilling process in April. The well’s total depth is about 4,500 meters.
ACG participating interests are: bp (30.37%), SOCAR (25.0%), MOL (9.57%), INPEX (9.31%), Equinor (7.27%), ExxonMobil (6.79%), TPAO (5.73%), ITOCHU (3.65%), ONGCVidesh (2.31%).
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has acquired Equinor’s shares in Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli, Karabakh fields, and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project.
The transactions will be completed following compliance with all regulatory requirements and contractual obligations.
