JSC "Mobile TeleSystems" (MTS), the leading telecommunications operator in Russia and the CIS, said on Thursday the resumption of the activities in Turkmenistan and obtaining licenses, technical and legal conditions necessary for resumption of operations in this country.
In a press release states that the MTS and state-owned company of telecommunications (GKE) "Turkmen", acting in accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a contract on the terms of the economic activities of the Company "MTS Turkmenistan", 100-percent subsidiary of OJSC "MTS ". Contract signed for five years with option to renew for the same period.
The agreement provides that "MTS Turkmenistan" will pay a monthly "Turkmen" 30% of net profits from the company and calculated in accordance with the accounting rules of Turkmenistan.
"MTS Turkmenistan" was licensed to provide telecommunication services in GSM and 3G networks for a period of three years, has entered into several agreements with the state-owned enterprises of communication of Turkmenistan to join networks and interaction at the level of infrastructure and implemented a number of additional activities that allow the network to resume work on the entire territory of Turkmenistan.
The company reports that the state of infrastructure of MTS in Turkmenistan allows to quickly restore the network and begin providing all services in the same volume of more than 2.4 million subscribers.
"MTS is pleased to announce the resumption of its activities in Turkmenistan and considers positive the fact that the solution that meets the interests of both parties, was found as a result of constructive negotiations between the government of Turkmenistan, MTS and its major shareholder - AFK" System "- President of JSC "MTS" Andrei Dubovskov's words presented in press release.
"I am confident that the agreements set forth in the decree of President of Turkmenistan, will serve as the basis for long-term mutually beneficial cooperation, which resulted as all the people of Turkmenistan win, a country's economy will receive a new impetus to the further dynamic development", - he said.
JSC "MTS" and its 100% subsidiary of BCTI, Republic of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan, the State Telecommunications Company "Turkmentelecom" and enterprise mobile "Altin Asir," signed an agreement on July 25 to settle all mutual claims related to the suspension of the MTS in Turkmenistan in December 2010.
