Azerbaijan has achieved great success in creating the space industry, a Russian space research scientist and distinguished physics professor at the University of Maryland, Academician Roald Sagdeev told reporters in Baku.
He said that Azerbaijan possesses two first-class modern satellites, and the third one is expected to be launched in the near future.
“I think that no other republic that became independent after the collapse of the USSR can boast of such achievements,” said Sagdeev. “That’s because the Azerbaijani government, starting from the rule of the great Heydar Aliyev, realized that this is what Azerbaijan needs today and what the future generation will need.”
The scientist also shared his impressions about the Azerbaijani and Soviet aerospace engineer and a renowned rocket scientist, lieutenant general of artillery, chairman of the USSR state commission for flight test of manned spacecraft (in 1966-1991) Kerim Kerimov.
“I am very impressed by this remarkable man who played a great role in the formation of not only the Soviet but also the world cosmonautics,” Sagdeev said.
As for the fact that Kerimov’s photos were not shown a lot during the Soviet period, Sagdeev said that this was related to his activity, which at that time constituted a state secret.
