BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. New sites for building a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan haven’t been identified yet, the country’s Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov told reporters on the sidelines of Mazhilis [lower house of the parliament], Trend reports via the Kazakh media.

“According to preliminary surveys related to the possible placement sites, given geological, tectonic and seismological studies, natural landscape, availability of water, human resources, these works must first be carried out,” Akchulakov said.

According to him, the final decision will be made only after the completion of all research work.

“There cannot be many such places where an NPP can be placed. This isn’t the work of one day, so the research is being carried out according to plan. We must conduct comprehensive research works before starting any construction,” added the minister.

Previously, Ulken settlement in the Almaty region and Kurchatov city in the East Kazakhstan region were considered potential sites for the construction of the NPPs.
