BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 17. The government of Kazakhstan adopted a 10-year development strategy of KazAutoZhol (national highway operator), Trend reports, citing the press service of the Kazakh PM.

The strategy includes a number of steps expected to improve the condition of roads, in addition to unlocking the country’s transit potential.

An additional benefit would be the construction of electric vehicle charging stations, which would speed up the transition to environmentally friendly vehicles.

The measures included in the final version of the strategy include the following:

The introduction of international FIDIC standards in all road projects

Improvement of the process of coordinating technical documentation

Increase the responsibility of design and contractor organizations

Integration of the automated control systems into a unified IT system

Purchasing the necessary road maintenance equipment

The implementation of the said measures is expected to bring 100 percent of the roads to either good or satisfactory condition.

Previously, Kazakhstan decided to merge the JSC NC KazAutoZhol with Kazakhavtodor LLP, which will lead to the creation of a unified company that will manage and improve the condition of the country’s most vital roads.

Currently, the network of public roads in Kazakhstan is 96,000 kilometers. The share of roads of national importance in the standard condition is 90 percent, which equals 22,500 kilometers. Some 12,786 kilometers (52 percent) are in good condition, 9,564 kilometers (38 percent) are in satisfactory condition, and 2,584 kilometers (10 percent) are in poor condition.
