Kazakhstan names volume of investments attracted to Akmola region in 2023

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 7. More than 530 billion tenge (about $1.15 billion) of investments were attracted to the Akmola region of Kazakhstan in 2023, said the head of the region Marat Akhmetzhanov, Trend reports.

The volume of private investment in the Akmola region increased by 7 percent compared to last year.

More than half of the investments are attracted to the field of renewable energy sources.

Thus, the first stage of the largest wind power plant Borey Energy with a capacity of 150 MW, located in the Arshalynsky district, was put into operation. In addition, three wind power plants with a total capacity of more than 30 MW were launched in the Zerendy and Yereymentau districts.

As the head of the region noted, 154 projects worth 185 billion tenge (about $401 million) have been implemented in the region, thanks to which 1,500 local residents are employed.

Major projects include the IL Tov poultry processing plant, scheduled to open in December, and the Sirius Plus health and wellness hotel.

As he noted, Akmola region is a region with special investment attractiveness. This is facilitated by the geographical location and proximity to the capital.

At the end of 2022, the gross inflow of foreign direct investment into Kazakhstan amounted to $28 billion, which is 17.7 percent more than the results of 2021 ($23.8 billion). This is a record figure over the past 10 years; in 2012, the volume of FDI reached $28.9 billion.

The leaders in terms of investment in the republic were the Netherlands: $8.33 billion (an increase of 19.7 percent), the US: $5.1 billion (+81.9 percent), Switzerland: $2.8 billion (+2.4 percent), Belgium: $1.56 billion (+46 percent), Russia: $1.52 billion (-19.7 percent), South Korea: $1.48 billion (+84.8 percent), China: $1.43 billion (-22.5 percent), France: $770.2 million (+27.4 percent), the UK: $661 million (-35.7 percent), and Germany: $469.5 million (+45.4 percent).
