BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 13. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is set to upgrade the air traffic systems at Manas and Issyk-Kul airports in Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan told Trend.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Finance, JICA's local office, and the Japanese Embassy have signed exchange notes and a grant agreement for the "Air Traffic Management Equipment Enhancement Project," totaling 2.153 billion Japanese yen (approximately $13.8 million).
The project will involve renovating the control tower at Osh airport and modernizing systems at Manas and Issyk-Kul airports.
"The air traffic control and management equipment has significantly deteriorated over the past 50 years, and there is an urgent need for system upgrades," the ministry stated.
This assistance aims to improve the safety and capacity of aircraft operations and contribute to maintaining transportation infrastructure and regional connectivity by enhancing the efficiency of the aviation sector.
