ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, August 9. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has arrived in Astana to participate in the VI Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State, Trend reports via the Kazakh prime minister's press service.
The Turkmen president was welcomed by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov.
“Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are steadily expanding their trade and economic cooperation across the entire spectrum of interaction. Over the past five years, trade volume between the two countries has increased fourfold and grew by 28 percent in the last year alone. The trade turnover for the first six months of this year amounted to $237.2 million,” the press service said.
The press service pointed out that promising areas for expanding cooperation include the gas industry and the transit-transport sector, where large projects for the reconstruction and construction of highways are underway.
These projects include the construction of a new road Kazakhstan Border – Garabogaz – Turkmenbashi spanning 225 km and a new bridge over the Garabogazgol Bay.
Additionally, a project is being developed for the reconstruction of a section of the road Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan Border with a length of 165 km.
To note, the sixth Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State will be held in Astana on August 9. High-level discussions will cover current issues of multilateral cooperation and prospects for regional interaction.
