Uzbek Senate begins work in Tashkent

The regular twelfth plenary meeting of the Senate of Oliy Majlis - the upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament, commenced work in Tahskent, a correspondent of Trend reported from Senate's meeting.

The regular twelfth plenary meeting of the Senate of Oliy Majlis - the upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament, commenced work in Tahskent, a correspondent of Trend reported from Senate's meeting.

The Senate's two-day meeting agenda includes over 10 items including a discussion of a number of draft laws such as the laws 'On mortgage registry', 'On combating the spread of the disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV infection)', 'On conformity assessment' and 'On making changes and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan' which provides further improvement of the business environment and entrepreneurial development.

Senators will hold a hearing of the report of the chairman of the Uzbek Central Bank's board for 2012 and discuss the matters of environmental safety, the protection of environment and human health.

The two-chamber parliament was formed in Uzbekistan in 2005. Some 150 deputies work at the Legislative Chamber on a continuing basis. They were elected in December 2009 from four political parties and the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan for a period of five years.

The upper chamber, the Senate, employs 100 deputies elected in equal number. There are six people from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and Tashkent city. In addition, 16 members of the Senate are appointed by the Uzbek President from amongst the most distinguished citizens with extensive practical experience and special merits in the field of science, art, literature, industry and other spheres of social activity.
