Iran and Lebanon have announced readiness to start free trade, the Mehr News Agency reported.

In a meeting between Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi and Lebanese Minister for Economy and Trade Nicolas Nahas in Beirut, the two sides agreed to launch negotiations for starting free trade.

In May 2012, Nahas said "We are currently studying the agreement that would include phasing out customs and fees on imports and exports between the two countries [in the free trade zone]".

The Lebanese economy minister said that economic ties between Lebanon and Iran are improving as various cooperation programs and memorandums of understanding would be implemented soon.
