The Iranian police arrested a number of people during a promotional meeting of presidential candidate Hassan Rouhani on Saturday at the Jamaran Mosque in Tehran.

Saeedollah Badashti, the head of the headquarters of the young followers of Hassan Rouhani, was among the arrested people, the reformist website Kalame wrote.

Mohammad Parsi, Shirin Mirkarami, Mohsen Rahmani, and some other people were also arrested.

Moreover, the Alef website, which is run by MP Ahmad Tavakkoli, reported that the meeting ended with unrest.

The Mehr News Agency also reported that people chanted revolutionary slogans, supporting Mirhossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, the two candidates who protested at results of the 2009 presidential election. The people also voiced support for Hassan Rouhani.

Before the meeting, hundreds of people chanted slogans, including "Our detained leaders should be freed", and "Political prisoners should be freed."

During his speech at the Jamaran Mosque, Rouhani said, "With your support, we will open all the locks which have been fastened upon people's life during the past eight years. You - dear students and hero youth - are the ones who have come to restore the national economy and improve living standards of people. We will back our country to the dignity of the past."

Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.

The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
