US President Barack Obama and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili discussed Georgia’s efforts to advance its economic development, as well as joint work in Afghanistan during the meeting in Washington on Friday, RIA Novosti reported.

US President Barack Obama and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili discussed Georgia's efforts to advance its economic development, as well as joint work in Afghanistan during the meeting in Washington on Friday, RIA Novosti reported.

"Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met with Saakashvili after the memorial service for diplomat Richard Holbrooke", the White House said in a statement.

According to the statement, US President expressed gratitude to Saakashvili for his participation at a memorial service and for the award to Richard Holbrooke.

Earlier, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili awarded Richard Holbrook the Order of Saint Giorgi.

"They also discussed security challenges in the Caucasus and the work of (international) forces in Afghanistan, where brave Georgians stand shoulder to shoulder with American forces," the White House said.
