LEIPZIG, Germany, May 25. Ukraine already needs more than $400 billion for the post-war reconstruction, Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, said, Trend reports.
He made the remark on the sidelines of the International Transport Forum's Annual Summit held in Leipzig, Germany on May 24-26, 2023.
"World Bank has calculated that the damage Ukraine suffered from the war is worth more than $130 billion. And for the reconstruction and recovery, we already need more than $400 billion. These damages are coming on a daily basis," he said.
According to Derkach, civil infrastructure in Ukraine is currently the most damaged.
"We have more than 8 million people out of the country. We have 6 million people internally displaced within the country. Our main task is to bring all the people back home. But to bring them home we need to have good roads, we need to have border crossing points, capacity, we need to rebuild their houses. All these facilities should be reconstructed not when the war will be finished, but right now," he said.
