The Egyptian military on Tuesday backed a roadmap for a new consitution and elections in six months issued by interim president Adli Mansour and rejected by the Muslim Brotherhood, dpa reported.
"No party is entitled to defy the people's will and their vision of their future, for the destinies of nations are too important and too sacred to be an object of manoeuvring or obstruction, whatever the pretext might be," it said in a statement carried on state television.
"The Egyptian people will not consent to that and the armed forces will not accept it," it added, in an apparent warning to the Brotherhood and other groups who have also rejected the roadmap.
