Muslim elites of CIS countries to meet in Moscow

VII Muslim Forum "Russia and the Islamic world: the vectors of modernization in the CIS space" will be held in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod on November 14-15, CA-NEWS reported.

Religious, community leaders and scholars will gather to discuss issues common to the entire Muslim population of the former Soviet Union, reported the organizing committee of the Forum.

Recommendations for effectively addressing the current difficulties with the development of Muslim education, training for religious institutions, and the spread of extremism among young people will be developed at the forum. One of the key messages of the event will be the thesis of historical continuity and community gatherings and spiritual institution of theological thought of Muslims of the CIS.

Designated agenda items are of particular significance in light of the project to create a Eurasian Union.

Forum is timed to the 20th anniversary of Commonwealth of Independent States and the 15th anniversary of the Council of Muftis of Russia - one of the largest religious centers in the CIS. The forum is held in the framework of the celebration of National Unity Day.

The tradition of holding Muslim Forum was founded on the eve of celebration of the first National Unity Day on November 4, 2005 and coincided with the opening the monument to Minin and Pozharsky - Heroes of the People's Militia of 1612 - in Nizhny Novgorod, said the statement.

Forum was organized by the Council of Muftis of Russia, the Spiritual Board of Muslims of European Russia and Nizhny Novgorod Islamic Institute named after H. Faizhanov.
