Tenge deposits increase in Kazakh banks

Kazakh banks increased volume of deposits in national currency tenge by 43.4 percent in Jan. – Aug. 2016 to 7.1 trillion tenge (337.16 tenge = $1), Kazakh National Bank reported.
In Aug. deposits in tenge decreased by 3.7 percent, said the bank’s message.

The volume of deposits in foreign currency has decreased by 7 percent since the beginning of the year to almost 10.25 trillion tenge. In August deposits in foreign currency decreased by 2.6 percent.

The share of deposits in tenge hit 40.9 in late August, compared to 41.2 in late July and 31 percent at the beginning of the year.

The volume of all deposits in Kazakh banks increased by 8.6 percent to 17.35 trillion tenge in Jan. –Aug. 2016. (3.1 percent decrease in Aug.). Deposits of legal entities increased by 11 percent in the reporting period to 10.19 trillion tenge (3.5 percent decrease in Aug.). Individual deposits increased by 5.4 percent in Jan.-Aug. to 7. 16 trillion tenge (2.4 percent decrease in Aug.).

In Aug. 2016 an average interest rate on tenge deposits for legal entities stood at 11.1 percent, for individuals - 12.5 percent. In Dec. 2015 average interest rate on tenge deposits for legal entities and individuals hit 20.1 percent and 8.5 percent correspondingly.
