Azerbaijan, Baku, March 11 / Trend M.Aliyev /
Tehran will host a meeting of Caspian countries' representatives to determine quotas for sturgeon fishing in the end of March, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari said today.
"We hope that new protocols will be introduced to the Caspian Sea environmental convention for solution of the Caspian bio-resource problems," Safari told journalists at an event devoted to security of the Caspian Sea.
The Caspian littoral countries should cooperate closely to achieve the signing of such protocols.
Safari noted that attempts to conduct activities on quotas have been taken twice, but ended unsuccessfully.
Presently, Kazakhstan has a quota of 20 percent from the total capacity for sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea. Russia's share in the total quota is about 26 percent, Iran's 44 percent, while Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan altogether hold 10 percent.
