British Council Changes Function Strategy in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. A.Ismailova / Andy William, the head of the British Council in the Baku office, stated on the 8th of June that the organization will change its strategy of functioning in Azerbaijan.

With this aim, the company closed the social courses of the English language and announced a new programme of language learning for teachers in Azerbaijan.

The British Council aims in assisting people in Azerbaijan to learn the English language.

"The Azerbaijani economy develops rapidly. For the development of the country, it is necessary to improve the level of the English language. Therefore, The British Council aims in improving the level of English skills of both Azerbaijani teachers and students by 2011," William noted.

The best method for improving the language in Azerbaijan is by instructing the current teachers and through them students and pupils. The teacher's courses will be free.

The teachers of the English language from the capital city, as well as from regions, will be involved in the project.

Everything will be coordinated with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Education.

All the teaching materials will be available for the students to use at the British Council for learning the English language independently. These materials will also be available on the web site of the organization in the future.

The British Council has been operating in Azerbaijan for about thirteen years.

The teachers from the organization taught the English language in classrooms, held trainings for tutors, as well as broadcasted shows on the television channels.
