Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict Materials 26 May 2007 10:15 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The statement by Karabakh Liberation Organization (KLO) says that the next visit of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group serves the implementation of the groundless claims of Armenia.

KLO considers that the co-chairs who arrived in Baku from Yerevan do not hide their satisfaction with the negotiation process. "The co-chairs highlight the importance of the participation of the regime in Nagorno-Karabakh in the negotiations process. It once again testifies the pro-Armenian position of the co-chairs," mentioned by the statement.

KLO considers it necessary to refuse the mediation mission of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and cease the negotiations that are contrary to the interests of Azerbaijan.

The Karabakh Organization Committee (KLO) was founded in Baku on 28 January 2000 with the aim of conducting a public struggle for the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh from the Armenian occupants. The organization, headed by Akif Nagi, the candidate in historical sciences, unites over 10,000 people, including outstanding representatives of intelligentsia, refugees and internally displaced people, youth, former fighters, senior ranking officers in reserve, as well as different social segments of the population.

The conflict between the two countries of South Caucasus appeared in 1988 due to the territorial claims of Armenia against Azerbaijan. Armenia has occupied 20% of the Azerbaijani lands including Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven Districts of the country surrounding it. Since 1992 to the present time, these territories have been under the occupation of the Armenian Forces. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a cease-fire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group ( Russia, France and USA) hold peaceful negotiations.
