Arrested due to coup d'etat states former National Guard Commander's involvement in revolt

A detainee accused of an attempt to coup d'etat Gia Gvaladze said a former commander of the National Guard Koba Kobaladze participated in the attempt to coup d'etat, Gvaladze said in a confession, which was aired via the TV.

He said that he had personally met with Kobaladze together with the current wanted Koba Otanadze at one of meetings. This meeting focused on issues related to the rebellion and marching to Tbilisi with 500 military tanks.

Gvaladze stated that Kobaladze led the "parade". He admitted that the revolt in Muhrovani was planned.

Meanwhile, Kobaladze said that he did not know Gvaladze and denied his involvement in the rebellion in Muhrovani. He was arrested and is at the Interior Ministry.

The Interior Ministry also demonstrated footages of recognition by staff officers of the Muhrovani Tank Battalion, who stated unanimously that his commander, Vice-Colonel Shota Gorgiashvili formed the battalion at 7:30 on May 5 and announced his disobeying the authorities.

Some 43 tanks and 13 infantry fighting vehicles were taken from the unit. They have been mobilized for the defense.
