Georgia, Tbilisi, Sept. 4 / Trend , N.Kirtzkhalia/

The National Democratic Party (NDP) is calling for the country to demand that the "Georgia's occupied territories" issue be included in the 64th UN General Assembly agenda.

At the Assembly, consideration of the "Long-lasting Conflicts in the GUAM" issue is not reflecting the reality and thus cannot provide them with a legal solution, which in turn poses a threat to the region's peace, security and development, said opposition leader and MP, Guram Chakhvadze.

The NDP think Georgia is politically justified in demanding the status of the country be considered - as a victim of military aggression - and making efforts to adopt a resolution. Chakhvadze said with UN General Assembly procedure this is possible, and some countries have used this, including Azerbaijan, whose issue entered the assembly agenda under the name of "The Situation in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan".

"In order to restore the country's territorial integrity it is necessary not just to state the facts, but also to take practical steps and activate of Georgian diplomacy. Unfortunately we do not see this, and the chief culprit is the Ministry of Internal Affairs," he added.

The General Assembly session will open on Sept. 15.
