On Sept. 29, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev met with the Chairman of the Senate of Romania Mircea Geoana, AzerTAj state news agency reported.
Mircea Geoana noted that his country attaches great importance to bilateral relations with Azerbaijan and that these relations are of strategic character. Highlighting the importance of Azerbaijani leader's visit to Romania, Chairman of the Senate said that Azerbaijan is an important country in all directions and is a friendly country for Romania.
Mentioning the permanent role of Nationwide Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of Azerbaijan, Mircea Geoana expressed confidence that the relations between Romania and Azerbaijan will further strengthen.
President Ilham Aliyev said that the bilateral relations between the two countries are developing successfully. Noting the expansion of political and economic relations and good prospects of economic cooperation and touching upon the importance of signed Declaration on establishment of strategic partnership between Romania and Azerbaijan, the Head of State stressed that the paper covers a broad spectrum and reflects the spirit of bilateral relations.
The Head of State said that from the point of view of bilateral relations, there are large-scale projects in perspective, emphasizing Romania's support in Azerbaijan's integration into Europe.
Upon completion of the meeting, the Chairman of the Senate Mircea Geoana handed to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev a commemorative medal dedicated to the 1040th anniversary of the Senate of Romania.
