Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 7 / Trend M.Aliyev /

The parliamentary election results were not annulled in any election commissions, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov said today, adding that this proves their high level of organization.

Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairman Mazahir Panahov handed out mandates to the newly elected MPs and expressed hope that they will promote the development of Azerbaijan.

"The elections were democratic and transparent," Panahov said.

Azerbaijan held the elections on Nov. 7.

The voter turnout hit about 50.14 percent (roughly 2.48 million voters) in Azerbaijan, the CEC's Elections Information Center told Trend.

The CEC reported that 690 candidates were running for the parliamentary elections.

Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005.
