Georgia, Tbilisi, Dec. 9 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /
The U.S. Senate has prepared a statement in support for Georgia, which will be put to a vote. The decision to release the statement was announced after Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, European Integration Minister Giorgi Baramidze met with a group of U.S. senators led by John McCain in Washington.
As the deputy PM's office told Trend, the senators will unanimously support a statement in favor of Georgia's territorial integrity and its integration into Atlantic structures.
Baramidze also met with the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Howard Berman, as well as the National Democratic Institute president. He is also scheduled to meet with the Marshall Fund's leadership.
Baramidze added that in addition to discussing the document in support of Georgia, Georgia's NATO membership was also discussed with McCain.
"We should know the U.S. position on this issue," he said. "We need to know how the United States sees Georgia's NATO membership."
