The Armenian Heritage Party recently completely marginalized, especially in light of recent inappropriate proposals that put forward in the Parliament, Trend Expert Council member, MP Rasim Musabeyov reported.
"Armenia has enough social problems, as well as problems of corruption and criminalization of political power, so that the Heritage Party could express itself," Musabeyov said. "Earlier they have put forward the idea, even if endorsed by the ruling party, recognition of the independence of the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh and now put forward the following utopian and foolish idea."
In fact, Musabeyov said, this proposal is nothing but a populist politics, the attempt to gain some scores.
"I think that the international community will not react to the mad project of the Heritage Party and such rash and foolish moves of the Armenian parliamentarians will have no consequences," he said.
The Heritage Party put into circulation a draft statement "On the recognition of crimes against Armenians in Azerbaijan in 1988-1994 as a genocide". This was initiated By MP Larisa Alaverdyan.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
