BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 31. Relations between Azerbaijan and France have started to deteriorate following the strengthening of the Armenian diaspora, director of Conflicts magazine Gil Mihaely said at an international conference on “France and the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict” in Baku, Trend reports.
Michaely pointed out that a major ace in the hole for bolstering Azerbaijan's ties with the West was, without a doubt, energy.
The relations between Azerbaijan and France made an important breakthrough in 1990 thanks to the participation of Total, which was one of the founders of the contract. TotalEnergies has been operating in the country since 1996.
In addition, a French Lyceum was opened in Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijani culture, particularly opera, has been widely recognized, especially in recent decades.
He noted that the Armenian diaspora then strengthened its position, which allowed it to promote its agenda.
“Since the 1990s, the Armenian diaspora began to actively promote its agenda in the political and social spheres, strengthening ties with French politicians. Lobbying groups have strengthened, and the geopolitical situation has deteriorated,” he said.
