Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Sardar Jalaloglu, the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA), has stated that the Azadlyg Bloc is not a real centre of force.

Azadlyg Bloc was formed by the Musavat Party, the DPA, the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party, and the Liberal Party of Azerbaijan for joint participation in the Parliamentary elections in 2005. After elections, the Musavat was the first party to separate from the bloc; in 2007 the DPA separated. Presently, the bloc unites the Popular Front Party, the Liberal Party, and the Citizen and Development Party.

Jalaloglu noted that Azadlyg is still a new bloc, as its two founders -the DPA and Musavat separated from the bloc.

The consultative structure of opposition, where the DPA is currently represented, was not formed as an alternative to the Azadlyg Bloc.

"The present Azadlyg is not a bloc, which sometimes was a single force centre. When the DPA was represented in the Azadlyg Bloc, except for some meetings, it showed no sign of activity. The Bloc does not partake in the political life of the country," Jalaloglu said.

The DPA was formed by Jalaloglu in1991. By January 2007, the party adhered to a radical opposition position. In January 2007, the DPA took a new political course of dialogue with the ruling party.
