Possibly the Issue of Gabala Radar Station Will be Discussed during Upcoming Visit of Iranian President to Azerbaijan: Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Alizade / Possibly the issue of Gabala Radar Station will be discussed during the upcoming visit of the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to Azerbaijan, said the Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan, Nasir Hamidi Zari, on 20 August in Baku.

Gabala RS owned by Azerbaijan is hired by Russia. Recently the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, suggested to the US President, Georgia Bush, to jointly use the Station. The Iranian side expresses its dissatisfaction with this issue and is attentively following the development of the events.

Zari said that the relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are at high level. The Iranian diplomat expressed dissatisfaction with the proposal of Putin. " Azerbaijan should be more interested in this issue because Russia and the USA do not accept existence of Azerbaijan and suggest Gabala RS to each other. It may assume other importance from the point of view of independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," Iranian Ambassador said.

According to him, the issue of Gabala RS will be discussed during Iran President's visit to Baku.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, will make an official visit to Azerbaijan on 21 August. A number of bilateral documents will be signed during the visit.
