Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The former Health Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Insanov, highlighted an attempt on his life by the Government. On 25 September, the Head Health Department was planning to send Insanov to Tusi Clinic for a medical examination due to hernia on his spine. However, the Minister refused the examination saying that the Government wants to kill him with a high dosage X-ray.

The Chief of the Health Department, Rafael Mehdiyev, refuted Insanov's words during an interview with Trend. According to him, they need to x-ray Insanov in Tusi Clinic to determine the source of the pain in his spine.

The Department Chief said that Insanov was examined in 2004.

"He needs a medical examination to determine his condition, the existence of a hernia on his spine, the severity of the hernia and to receive tangible treatment," Mehdiyev said.

He stressed that the medical examination which Insanov requires to establish a concrete decision only on the basis of the results obtained after the examination. "The specialists of the Medical Center of the Penal Service examined Insanov several times and highlighted the need of a magnate-nuclear resonance examination (x-ray)," Mehdiyev said.

Insanov's advocate Togrul Babayev said that Insanov had been examined several times in Munhen Clinic in Germany by the medical-expert group of Azerbaijan's Ministry of National Security. The diagnosis of a hernia on his spine was confirmed. The former Minister did not agree with the diagnosis.

"Insanov is afraid that he may be subjected to strong X-rays during the ultrasound," the advocate said.

Presently, Ali Insanov is being detained at the Penal Service of the Bail Investigation cell.

He has repeatedly stated that during the court process and for more than 40 days Insanov was kept in the Bail Investigation cell, irrespective of the appeal, no conditions were created for his treatment.

Former minister was arrested in October 2005 for attempting a coup d'etat, appropriation and embezzlement of state property, exceeding his commission and responsibilities, and other serious crimes and was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment and confiscation of his property.
