(thesun.co.uk) - David Beckham has arrived back in the UK this afternoon after his father suffered a near-fatal heart attack.
Ted Beckham, 59, was taken by ambulance to hospital last night after complaining of chest pains at home.
Beckham landed at Heathrow at about midday and was picked up in a car which was waiting to take him to see his father in hospital. His spokesman said he had spoken to him when he landed but that he did not know whether the footballer would make any kind of statement at the hospital.
He said: "His priority is to see his dad and that is his first concern."
The footballer will soon be joined in London by his wife, Victoria, who has cut short her work commitments in Japan. The couple's spokesman confirmed she was flying out of Japan today and is due to land back in the UK sometime tomorrow.
He said there was nothing to add about the condition of Mr Beckham at this time.
Sources said Ted DIED en route but was resuscitated by the crew.
Later he was moved to a specialist heart clinic.
Frantic David was told the news in Los Angeles and decided to fly home to be with his family.Beckham was whisked straight to airport security without checking in.
An eyewitness said: "He was wearing sunglasses but you could tell he had been crying".
His sister Joanne was staying with their father at the London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green.
Ted, of Chingford, East London, was first taken to Whipps Cross Hospital. On arrival he was rushed into a resuscitation room.
A source close to Becks said: "David's dad suffered a heart attack. It was all very sudden."
A hospital source said: "Ted was in a bad way and actually died on his way to hospital. The paramedics managed to bring him back.
"He was further stabilised in hospital before being transferred."
The emergency call was made at 9.20pm and Ted was taken in the ambulance alone.
Mr Beckham's transfer overnight to the London Chest Hospital will mean he is being attended to by the country's top heart specialists.
Along with St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Royal London, it is managed by the Barts and The London NHS Trust and houses the UK's biggest heart attack centre.
Combined with St Bartholomew's, the hospital treats about 9,000 patients a year and has one of the lowest mortality rates in the country for cardiac surgery
David was with his best pal Dave Gardner - husband of actress Davinia Taylor - when he heard the news.
England star David and gas engineer Ted had a troubled relationship since Ted split from wife of 32 years Sandra in 2002.
David, 32, also refused to speak him after he wrote a book about him three years ago. But the pair had an emotional reunion in April.
The news is a further blow for Becks, whose LA Galaxy career and England comeback has been hampered by injury.
