OSCE Begins Training for Azerbaijani Judges

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend A.Gasimova / The Baku office of OSCE has started the first phase of training, for the development of professional skills of judges in Azerbaijan, the OSCE said.

During the three month training there are plans to hold a series of courses on human rights, civil rights and criminal law, and especially, trials at the European Court on Human Rights, concerning Azerbaijan.

"Improvement of judges' skills is a key issue in Azerbaijan, and it is very important for judges to be completely acquainted and apply precedents in law of the European Court on human rights," Jose Luis Herrero, the head of the OSCE Baku office, said.

A total of 120 candidates from judges to lawyers of the Constitutional Court will participate in the training. The training will be provided in lectures and practical work. The project is being carried out with sponsorship from international experts, the Justice Ministry, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court and the Legal Council.
