Lawsuit by Azerbaijani Azadlig Newspaper Journalist’s Lawyer not Approved

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 April / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The lawsuit filed by lawyer of the Azadlig newspaper journalist against the Prosecutor General's Office was not approved.

The demands of Elchin Sadigov, lawyer, to punish Ali Guliyev, the official of Investigation Department of Prosecutor General's Office and pay compensation for damages were not approved during the court process in the Nasimi District Court of Baku on 22 April. Sadigov requested the Court to take a special decision against the investigator Guliyev.

Sadigov, Agil Khalil's lawyer, stated that his lawyer rights, freedom and immunity rights, as well as right for fair court proceedings have been violated.

Lawyer stated that he would appeal against the Court's decision.

Sadigov said he feel discontent that Khalil was not allowed to use his attorney rights during the evidence in the Investigation Department on 4 April.

Furthermore, Sadigov stated that he was kept in a close room for about 12 hours and was not even allowed to inform his relatives about it.

Sadigov considers 12 hours detention in the Prosecutor Office as illegal and ungrounded action. Lawyer stated that the investigator violated the Article 5 of the Constitution and 6 of the European Convention for Human rights and freedom.
