The Penal Service has completed the implementation of the pardon order signed by the Azerbaijani President on Dec. 29.

In order to execute the order, non-governmental organizations, civil society, intellectuals, the Ministry of Justice, the media have visited today the prisons.

A group, which also included Trend's representative, observed the process of releasing the prisoners.

Attending the event, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, a member of the Pardon Commission Zahid Garalov, Chief of Justice Ministry's inspectorate on control over the execution of punishments Malik Alekperov highly assessed the pardon order. Prisoners were recommended to take a correct position in society, be worthy citizens of their country.

The order, which is the 48th, affected a total of 92 prisoners.

Under the order, 71 convicts have been released from the prison terms that have not been served. Moreover, 15 other convicts with restricted jail term have been released before the completion of their term, while 5 persons imposed to fine were freed from penalty and one -conditional sentence.

The decree also pardoned one minor, one woman and eight foreigners: four citizen of Bangladesh, two - Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Under the 48 pardon orders signed since 1994, 5,121 people have been freed from punishment. Sixteen of them had been signed by Ilham Aliyev and 32 by the late President Heydar Aliyev. Forty thousand prisoners have been freed under eight acts of amnesty that have been signed until now.

Eight acts of amnesty, signed until now, covered 40,000 prisoners.
