BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 21. With the support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), work is under way to develop a hydrogen production and export strategy in Azerbaijan, Elnur Soltanov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, said in an interview with LGP News magazine, Trend reports.
According to the DM, a working group for the creation of this strategy was established last year.
"With the support from the EBRD, Advision consulting company is currently working on the development of the "Low-carbon Hydrogen Economy Market Research" for Azerbaijan. The project consists of a country report and case studies on hydrogen. The country report covers current and future demand, current and projected production, analysis of hydrogen production costs, political, regulatory and financial context, and assessment of the potential for exporting low-carbon hydrogen to energy markets," he said.
As Soltanov noted, Advision will prepare case studies on hydrogen and present them to a working group by the end of 2022.
"We believe that there is an economic basis for the production and export of green hydrogen. Therefore, in the future there will be more opportunities for the entire hydrogen value chain, as we see that our EU partners are also implementing various initiatives to support the production and use of hydrogen. At present we are also studying whether existing national and international gas pipelines will be able to transport a certain mixture of hydrogen," the DM said.
