BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 2. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) may provide Kyrgyzstan with a budgetary support of $50 million, Trend reports.
According to the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan, on May 7, 2024, the Kyrgyz side plans to hold negotiations with the ADB to finalize this support. This information was disclosed during a meeting between the Minister of Finance of Kyrgyzstan, Almaz Baketaev, and the President of ADB, Masatsugu Asakawa, in Tbilisi.
Baketaev highlighted that the approval of an anti-corruption strategy is also on the agenda. Additionally, the Minister of Finance of Kyrgyzstan requested personal assistance from Masatsugu Asakawa in implementing a social housing financing project, using Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan as examples.
Baketaev further appealed for support from Asakawa in launching new initiatives in Kyrgyzstan to combat climate change, thereby unlocking new funds for financing climate projects and fostering green economy development.
As of December 31, 2023, ADB has committed 217 public sector loans, grants, and technical assistance totaling $2.6 billion to Kyrgyzstan. ADB’s current sovereign portfolio in the country consists of 14 loans and 19 grants worth $784.8 million.
