ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 3. The total volume of loans issued by banks in Turkmenistan in national currency in January 2024 amounted to 586.41 million Turkmen manat ($167.55 million), Trend reports.
According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, this figure is almost 40 percent higher than in the same month of 2023, when it amounted to 419.63 million Turkmen manat ($119.89 million).
During this month, legal entities received loans in the amount of 368.24 million Turkmen manat, which is equivalent to $105.21 million, which is 45 percent more than in the same month of 2023, when it reached 254.35 million Turkmen manat ($72.67 million).
Furthermore, in the first month of this year, banks in Turkmenistan provided loans to individuals totaling 218.17 million Turkmen manat ($62.3 million), which is 32 percent more than in the same month of 2023 (165.28 million Turkmen manat or $47.2 million).
As of May 3, 2024, the official exchange rate of the Turkmen manat against the US dollar is 3.5 manat per USD, according to data from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.
