Iran sees decline in petrochemical exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2. Iran's petrochemical exports decreased by 24 percent in value and 25.8 percent in weight in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 20, 2024) compared to the same month of last year, the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration said, Trend reports.

During the first month, Iran's petrochemical exports totaled 3.3 million tons worth $1.4 billion.

Meanwhile, Iran's total exports amounted to $4.94 billion in the first month.

Iran exported 48.8 million tons of petrochemical products worth $19.4 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21 2023 through March 19, 2024). Compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2024), Iran's petrochemical exports decreased by 28.6 percent in value and 11.3 percent in weight.

To note, Iran's petrochemical production potential currently stands at 92 million tons per year. The petrochemical production potential is expected to increase to 95 million tons by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2024).
