BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2. Azerbaijan has produced 2.22 billion tons of oil and over 1.05 trillion cubic meters of gas in the history of field development, the head of Azerbaijan's Oil Research Center Ilham Shaban said, Trend reports.
Meanwhile, statistics on oil production have been kept since 1871 and gas production since 1922.
Currently, 95.6 percent of oil production and 99.5 percent of gas production occur on fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Moreover, Azerbaijan currently exploits 58 hydrocarbon fields, 19 of which are offshore and 39 of which are onshore (the oldest fields in the country).
To note, Azerbaijan produced 30.2 million tons of oil, condensate, and 48.3 bcm of gas in 2023.
