The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry offered to correct a primary version of a project on constructing a bridge in the Baku Bay region which was developed by the Korean Dong Sang Engineering company, a source at the Transport Ministry said on Feb. 27.
"The Korean company presented the project after which we corrected it and put forward our tasks before them," the source said.
Dong Sang Engineering must correct and submit a new version of the project to the Transport Ministry within three months.
Dong Sang Engineering will finance both the construction and operation. Once the project is recompensed, the bridge will be transferred to Azerbaijan via the Build-Operate-Transfer system (BOT). Azerbaijan will not invest in the project. There will be a toll to pass across the bridge, the source said earlier.
Initial estimates project that bridge construction will cost $1.2-1.3 million, Azerbaijani Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov said earlier. The Korean government allocated grant to implement the project.
The bridge must connect two ends of the Baku Bay (in the Bayil and Zigh settlements) and unload the capital's transport infrastructure. The bridge's offshore section will be 14 kilometers in length. Construction will end within 5 years.
