A protocol was signed on the results of the second meeting of the Azerbaijani-Cuban intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Baku.
"The meeting focused all matters of mutual cooperation in the coming years, work that will be submitted to relevant government authorities for approval," Azerbaijani co-chairman of the commission and Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev said.
Garayev said the protocol was corrected in connection with the global processes and includes new areas of cooperation. Basically, the parties agreed on cooperation in agriculture, food, veterinary, health and quarantine work.
Azerbaijan and Cuba also intend to cooperate in culture and tourism, statistics to exchange information, as well as information technology and communication.
Although there is a small goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Cuba, the sides have potential to increase this, the minister said.
The protocol comprises a separate point on cooperation in energy and envisages the Azerbaijani oil workers' participation in exploration in Cuba's oil fields.
Garayev said the parties intend to cooperate in training of professional sportsmen.
The sides agreed to hold the third meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Cuba in February-March 2010, Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Ricardo Guerrero said.
Guerrero said it is also planned to organize the Azerbaijani Culture Days in Cuba as part of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission. The sides have developed four protocols in different directions of cooperation and they will be signed at the next meeting of the commission.
"At present we have 10 more projects which are under discussion," Guerrero said.
