Total assets of Georgian commercial banks up 46 million lari

As of August 1, total assets of Georgian commercial banks increased 46.2 million lari ($ 1 = 1.68 lari) compared to the previous month. This figure hits 0.6 percent of total assets to the amount of 7 776.1 million lari.

The National Bank of Georgia said that the banking sector's own funds amounted to 1529.7 million lari or 19.7 percent of total assets of commercial banks within reporting period.

Number of banks with foreign capital in the authorized capital compared to the previous month was not changed. Their share in total authorized capital amounts to 86.2 percent. The share of five largest banks in assets of total banking sector increased 0.5 percent by hitting 79.4 percent.

As of August 1, 2009, Georgian banking sector was presented by 20 banks. About 15 are with foreign capital in the authorized capital, 2 - as a branch of foreign banks. The license for banking activity of 'First British Bank' was annulled in August.
