Azerbaijan to attend assembly on intellectual property

The Azerbaijani State Copyright Agency will take part at the 38th meeting of the Assembly of member-countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which will take place in Geneva on Sept.22-Oct.1, Chairman of the State Agency, Kamran Imanov, told Trend on Sept.19.

The meeting will consider the WIPO medium-term strategic plan for 2010-2015, the program and budget for 2010-2011, report on the permanent committee on patent law, matters relating to the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore and others.

During the Assembly, the Azerbaijani delegation will hold a series of meetings, which will discuss the development of cooperation, with representatives of the WIPO.

Azerbaijan entered the WIPO in 1996 and takes an active part in the international cooperation in    the intellectual property field. In 1997, Azerbaijan joined the Universal Copyright Convention, in1998- the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and 2001 became part of the Geneva Phonograms Convention.

Azerbaijan is also actively involved in the agreements on copyright in the CIS and also has a number of bilateral governmental agreements with some countries.
