Unemployment benefit increases by 11 per cent in Azerbaijan since early 2013

As of June 1, 2013, around 37,400 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, of which 41.8 per cent are women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report said. The number of unemployed in the country increased by 1.6 per cent (36,791 people as of early 2013) since early 2013.

According to the report, the average amount for unemployment benefits in Azerbaijan is 248.5 manat. The unemployment benefit amount has increased by 10.9 per cent since early 2013.
As of early June 2013, the economically active section of the population totaled 4.712.6 million (50.4 per cent of the total population), of which 4.471.1 million people were engaged in the labour activity. Thus, as of May 1, the number of hired people amounted to 1.479.4 million people, including 896,400 people working in the state economic sector and 583,000 people - in the private sector.

Moreover, the number of people working in the oil sector hits 37,200 people, while 1.442.2 million people in the non-oil sector. There is 1.437.7 million people among people hired in non-agricultural sector.

According to the report, as of May 1, 21.8 per cent is hired in the production spheres, of which 6.7 per cent - in construction, 6.2 per cent -manufacturing industry, 2.8 per cent - agriculture, forestry and fishery, 2.5 per cent - mining industry, 2.2 per cent - production and distribution of electricity, gas, steam, 1.4 per cent - water supply, waster treatment and recycling.

Around 23 per cent is concentrated in education, 18.9 per cent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.8 per cent - rendering of health and social services, 6.6 per cent - state governance and defense, social security, 4.9 per cent - transportation and warehousing, 3.9 per cent - recreation, entertainment and art, 3.7 per cent - professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.8 per cent - communication and information, 1.8 per cent - financial and insurance activities, 1.6 per cent - rendering administrative and additional services, 1.3 per cent - tourist accommodation and catering, 1.1 per cent - other areas, as well as 0.8 per cent - real estate transactions.

The official exchange rate is 0,7846 AZN/USD on June 14.
