Azerbaijan to become CERN associate member

Azerbaijan will be admitted to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) as an associate member by the end of the first quarter of 2016, Nazim Mammadov, the director of the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, said at a meeting of the presidium of the academy.

He said that at present, the computer power of GRID-segment of the academy is used to handle the information flow of the European Organization.

Earlier, the academy and CERN signed a protocol of intent envisaging the expansion of cooperation.

The presidium of the academy stressed the importance of increasing the number of Azerbaijani scholars participating in CERN's research.
