Representatives of large Dutch shipbuilding company Damen will visit Georgia in the near future, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

According to the ministry, during the visit, they will study the infrastructure selected for the shipbuilding company, and then choose the format of cooperation with the Georgian side.

This decision was made at a meeting of Georgian delegation with representatives of the company, which was held at Damen' headquarters in the Netherlands. The Georgian side was represented by Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Nikoloz Alavidze, Head of the Maritime Transport Agency Tamar Ioseliani and a representative of National Agency for State Property of Georgia Vasil Vashakidze.

The parties discussed the investment proposal prepared by the Georgian side specifically for the Damen company, which provides for the construction of a shipbuilding enterprise in Georgia and the development of appropriate infrastructure.

According to Alavidze, Georgia, as a maritime country, pays great attention to the development of maritime infrastructure, including the creation of shipbuilding and ship repair services. “We are pleased to cooperate with such a reputable shipbuilding company as Damen in reviving the Georgian shipbuilding industry,” he said.

In his words, the presence of a company with international experience will significantly increase Georgia’s maritime potential.

The first meeting of representatives of the Georgia with representatives of the Damen company took place in January 2019 as part of the Davos World Economic Forum.
