Agriculture sector digitalization leads to significant money savings in Kazakhstan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jun. 3

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

The economic effect from introducing digitalization elements in Kazakhstan’s agriculture amounted to 2.5 billion tenge ($6.2 million), Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov said, Trend reports with reference to the Central Communications Service under Kazakhstan’s President.

Omarov made the statement during a press briefing held on Jun. 3, 2020.

The introduced elements include elements to determine farm characteristics. For example, in crop production, these are electronic field maps, navigation systems and automatic control, whereas in livestock breeding, these are milking machines which use software, automatic water and feed supply systems, as well as animal activity monitoring systems.

“Elements of telematics in crop production are already used in the sowing complexes, combines and other equipment. Currently, over 5 million hectares of land, e.i. 20 percent of total sowing area, is cultivated by 1,500 units of modern agricultural machinery. This led to an increase in production and reduction of production costs of up to 20 percent,” Omarov said.

The minister added that the digitalization elements are also included in existing state support mechanisms.

“Kazakhs scientists created about 500 innovative developments in the fields of crop production and animal husbandry in 2019. Overall, 297 innovative developments including varieties, technologies, and methods, were created for the sustainable development of crop production in 2019. During the reporting year, 188 developments of Kazakh scientists were also created to develop animal husbandry,” he said.
